Shopping Made Fun at Heartis®

December 13, 2021

Whether shopping for personal items, baking ingredients, or gifts, shopping days at Heartis combine the best of both worlds. Residents enjoy the freedom, friendship, and flexibility of the shopping trip, while we provide the transportation and all of the assistance needed to each community member. It’s just one of the many types of outings Heartis residents regularly enjoy on our Heartis coach!

One of the things I like about shopping is that we can, that we have the opportunity to go to wherever the place is that day and shop for the things that we need and things, some things that we don’t even know we need until we get there. The residents like our shopping days because they enjoy the freedom, they enjoy socializing with friends, and it gives them the ability to buy the personal items that they need. Although we do provide meals, the residents, some residents like to get their own food. And it being the holiday season, some are buying gingerbread houses or gifts for family.

Today I shopped for baking things, because I’m getting ready to make a special kind of bread for my church group that’s going to have a sale this coming Friday.

If I need something from a store, if I forget to cash a check and have money, they’ll take me to my bank so I can get the money that I need. And that’s one of the reasons I like to get out. Being here at Heartis gives the residents the independence that they want in a more fulfilling life.

I’ve made quite a few friends at Heartis, some I never had met before, some that I’ve known before, and we all have a good time together. We share games, we share just visiting and getting along together.
