Hurricane Ian Updates

Dear Residents and Family,

We know this is a stressful time of uncertainty, but please be assured that we have already started taking precautions and will keep you as informed as possible. Please continue to check our website for updates as we will be updating it regularly throughout the storm and after as needed. As always, you can always contact me directly with concerns.

See below for the most current updates:

9.29.22 Update at 3:30pm EST

As we continue to maintain the safety of the residents and team members, I wanted to share an update on the status currently at our community. As of now the community is still without power and continues to run off the back-up generator. Power is out in a large area of this side of the state and Florida Power & Light has assured us that they are working diligently to restore power to the building as soon as possible.

Despite the loss of power, the residents continue to be in great spirits. Lunch service went great and dinner, with 2 meal options available, will be served on the individual floors. The usual happy hour is proceeding as planned with Bloody Mary’s as the drink of the day.

Even though team members are tired, they are all here for the long haul and making sure to attend to all of the residents’ needs. Team members are also focusing on as much community clean up from the storm as possible.

Stay safe,

Michelle Barger

General Manager

9.29.22 Update at 9:00am EST

We have weathered the storm! We are still without power but are running in community areas and the kitchen with generator power. We are serving a limited breakfast menu today – all the coffee machines are working!

Everyone is safe and we are busy assessing the extent of any property damage today.

9.29.22 Update at 12:00AM EST

The community has lost power and is in use of the generator.

Residents are unaffected at the time being as they had turned in for the evening. Fortunately temperatures are favorable and should not cause discomfort.

Team is making rounds and generator powered elevator is operational.

9.28.22 Update at 8:30pm EST

Residents at Heartis remain safe well into the storm.  All residents are accounted for, safe, happy and have retired for the evening. Our team is diligently working to manage any water leaks as the storm moves out of our area. We continue to have high winds and rain in our area, but it has decreased in speed and strength. Power continues to be operational throughout the community. Additionally, we are providing personal visual check-ins periodically with all residents throughout the evening tonight.

We will continue to inform you of our status.

9.28.22 Update at 5:00pm EST

Residents at Heartis continue to remain safe well into the storm.  There has been some water intrusion in hallways and other community spaces, but is being well managed by our community maintenance team. Even though the community is witnessing high winds, team members are diligently monitoring the safety of residents and will continue to do so throughout the evening. Power is still operational throughout the community and dinner will be hand-delivered to residents. Additionally we are providing personal visual check-ins periodically with all residents.

We will continue to inform you of our status.

9.28.22 Update at 1:30pm EST

Even though winds are starting to pick up greatly, the spirits of team members and residents are up and continue to be doing well. Our team members continue to monitor local progress of the storm and work to handle any instances of minor and small water leaks that may occur.

9.28.22 Update at 11:30am EST

We’re still holding strong as of now with full power. Lunch will be served as normal and for dinner we are preparing to offer room service to our residents tonight. We are all stocked up on food, water and ice, with back up ice being made and stored in the freezer. Team members are being deployed to various floors to take care on any maintenance issues as well as offer checks on our residents. We will continue to provide updates throughout the day on the status of this storm.

09.28.22 Update at 8:30 a.m. EST

We continue to do well here, and everyone is just finishing up breakfast as I type this.  The community is holding up well as is everyone’s spirit.  We still are operating on normal power and the generator is ready to go if need be.  We have a full schedule of activities planned for the day and a last minute scheduled one which is hurricane watching.  Please be careful and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as well.

09.27.22 Update at 4:30 p.m. EST

Everyone is staying upbeat despite the slight change in course of Ian.  Some of our staff have brought their families to stay here so they do not have to worry about their loved ones while they are caring for yours.  Some Resident family members have also decided to shelter in place with us to ride out the storm.  We still have plenty of food and supplies to care for all those that are currently in the community.  To ensure we can accommodate everyone here, for what may be a few days, we will not be allowing any additional people to stay.  If there is an emergent situation, we will do our best to accommodate but can not guarantee we will have space.  If this is the case, please reach out to me at the community.

09.27.22 Update at 10:30 a.m. EST

The team and Residents are in good spirits.  We continue to remain in touch with the Sarasota Office of Emergency Management and we still plan on sheltering in place.  If this direction would change, we have made the necessary arrangements.  In the event of an evacuation, Residents will be transported by bus to a Solvere sister community, Sunscape at Daytona.   We have busses at the ready and additional team members will follow with supplies.

We will continue to update you here as we learn more.

09.26.22 Update

The following is a list of what we have already implemented or plan to:

  • The generator, which provides power to all common areas and emergency outlets, has been topped off and tested.
  • Food, water, and general supplies have been checked, and we are sufficiently stocked.
  • Sternos, flashlights, batteries, and air mattresses have been purchased.
  • Team Leaders and Members are prepared for pre, during, and post-storm support for the community.
  • All furniture on residents’ patios will be brought inside.
  • All outdoor furniture has been moved indoors and secured.
  • Sandbags for all entryways have been obtained.
  • All roof drains have been checked and cleared.
  • All Medication Administration Records and Care Plans have been printed to ensure continuity of care.
  • All medications are being checked to ensure we have at least a 5 day supply from Tuesday on. Any medication not in five-day supply will be ordered STAT.
  • Our leadership team will hold daily meetings, more frequently, if needed, so that we can review any outstanding tasks and ensure that we are keeping you updated.

Please know that we are doing all we can to maintain the safety of residents and team members. I have spoken with the Sarasota Office of Emergency Management and we currently plan on sheltering in place. If you are planning to take your loved one to your home, please be sure to communicate with us to ensure that we have an accurate list of residents staying in the community and so that we can provide you with any medications or supplies in advance.

Stay safe,

Michelle Barger
